The cats are coming, wind ops and ‘we were robbed’ …

Have been full of cold all week and knocking whiskey macs back like there’s no tomorrow to try and get rid of it.  Have had a bit of a quiet time lately which has been a bit frustrating but it has been more bad luck than anything wrong with the horses.

We were very unlucky at Cheltenham with Pickamix who flew up the hill to finish a very close 3rd and would have won in another few strides.

I had a very good day’s hunting with the College Valley last week where the views were breathtaking. We were hunting in the Cheviot Hills which was quite stunning and l was riding a really good horse called Merlin who jumped everything l aimed him at.

We have got a fairly quiet week for runners although my girlfriend Kate is moving in with her two cats. My dog Lilly loves cats and spends most of the morning chasing the one that lives in the yard. It should be a lot of fun!  Animals are friends but they can’t lend you money.

We have been told by the BHA that we are going to have to declare wind operations when one of our horses runs having had one recently.  As usual the BHA have put no thought into this and certainly never consulted any trainers about it .  This will completely confuse punters as they don’t understand much about wind ops and will probably get their fingers burnt.

I asked my doctor how to keep this cold off my chest? He told me to tie a knot in my neck!

New horses, Melbourne Cup, James Bowen & Maid of Milan

We have been running a few with with one or two going well but just missing out on winning.  Must not panic yet as we have some nice horses to run yet and it’s a long season.  I went to Newmarket last week and bought two really nice three year olds who both have decent form on the flat.  The owner l bought the horses for paid for both of them on his credit card so it was very nice to leave Newmarket with two new horses and not owing Tattersalls any money!

I am getting very bored of reading about people who are reporting somebody for touching their leg thirty years ago. I remember being caught in bed with a married woman by her husband who walked into the bedroom. ‘What are you doing?’ he shouted. To which his wife said to me,’l told you he was stupid.’  He never rang the police!

I bet the Aussies weren’t too happy as they only had one horse in the first six in the Melbourne Cup as the Irish and English horses took them apart.

I drove a young lad to the races on Friday called James Bowen as he was riding Maid Of Milan for me in a handicap chase. He finished third on her but mark my words this lad is only sixteen and he will be a top jockey within three years.  We have a few runners towards the end of the week that may have chances so fingers crossed.  My girlfriend said to me ‘How do you make a man’s eyes light up?’ I replied l didn’t know.  She said ‘Shine a torch in his ear!’

Chepstow report, and Newmarket Sales

We have a nice horse running tomorrow at Worcester called Pickamix who l hope will run well and then we have a few in over the weekend.  I enjoyed my ride at Chepstow on Sureness the other Saturday although l don’t think l gave her a very good ride as l thought they would stop in front but they didn’t.  Unlike the winning jockey l don’t think l will be applying for my license again although fitness was not a problem!

Am off to the October Sales at Newmarket next week where 1700 horses are going under the hammer so we must get something. Had a nice bottle of wine in the hot tub with my nephew Ben who l don’t see that often and by the end of half an hour he was converted and will be buying one soon.  It also goes to prove that l don’t always have good looking young women in my hot tub – only when l can’t get them!

I bought the most lovely horse in Germany called Leoro and rode him for the first time this morning. He is a very big three year old and must be pretty good to have the form he has. While l was in Germany l thought l might buy my girlfriend Kate a present. I asked a German friend of mine what a brassiere was in their language and he said ‘ a Keipsemfrumfloppin’.

Fantastic Start To The National Hunt Season!

We have had a pretty good time lately with 4 winners and 3 seconds from our last 8 runners so long may it last!

We still have one share left in the Neardowners syndicate which is only £3600 for a 1/12 share of 3 horses.  All have won this year and Maid Of Milan looked impressive when winning her first novice chase last week .

There are also a couple of shares left in The 25 Club who had their first runner/winner on Saturday with Zen Master and these are 4 very nice horses!  It is only £10,000 for a share in this syndicate and there are no hidden extras so it’s an absolute steal!  Anyone interested do let me have your name and address so as we can send you a brochure.
